Ok so I know it’s whimsical wednesday and all and that I have already posted for the day, but there is more. I started “inspired by Beatrice Clay” out of a sincere desire to make beautiful things and find beautiful things to share with people.
The philosophy of inspired by BC is simple – everyone should own something that is beautiful. Beauty can come in the form of some really nice stationery, handspun yarn, photographs, vintage buttons, anything really. So I took the plunge and started a business. When the idea came about in December 2007, I knew nothing about where to start and the more I read about DBAs, copyrights, taxes, sole proprietorships, LLC, etc the more my head swam. Could I really do this? Could I really start an arts business (at least that’s what I call it:)) while working full-time and parenting a very emotional teenager.
Well, inspired by Beatrice Clay launched officially in October 2008 and I am still uncertain about whether I can handle it all or worse still whether anyone will like what I make and find. It’s a lot. Aside from just keeping things organized – inventory, products, receipts and whatnots – having to make or find items to share is both exciting and frightening. I am still trying to find my way.
I am especially still trying to find my niche – oil painting (currently stalled in this medium…I can’t even look at a brush), photography, sewing, stationery…. I feel a little jack-of-all-trades-master-of-noneish most of the time.
In the course of 3 years I went from knitting to spinning yarn to sewing to film photography to digital photography and now to letterpressing. I love it all, but I am anxiously awaiting my AHA moment, the time when my artistic path will be made clear and I will know exactly what I am doing.
In the meantime, I make whatever using paper + fiber + art + love.
Here are some of my photography I just added to the shop. There is a beautiful picture taken by my daughter as well. Live Inspired.
